Filipino & American Christian Convention
Two Conventions in One: The NACC and FACC
From Karla McElroy
The NACC welcomes the Filipino & American Christian Convention to Indianapolis, Indiana. Since its first gathering in Santa Cruz, California, in 1982, the FACC has been held biannually in cities across the United States, Hawaii, Canada, Guam, and the Philippines.
Al Dimaano is president of this year's convention. It seems particularly fitting for him to be a leader in this new NACC-FACC partnership since he is the founding chairman of the FACC.
Registration will cover events for both conventions. FACC-focused events will be held in the Hyatt Regency, which is attached by skywalk to the Indiana Convention Center. Though the FACC is sponsoring its own workshops, morning sessions, and children's and teen programming, the two conventions will combine for the evening sessions in the convention center. FACC attendees are welcome to participate in all NACC-sponsored special events as well as enjoy the exhibits and Connecting Place Stage presentations.
A full range of programs is planned for adults, youth, and children. Guest speakers will include Maxie Urma of Santa Cruz, Laguna, Philippines, Emanuel Arcigal from the Chicago Suburban Church of Christ, and Jim McElroy from the Filipino-American Christian Church, Shoreline, WA.
Of special note is the
Filipiniana celebration, coordinated by Rene Esmane. This is a highly anticipated portion of each FACC. Attendees wear native attire, and the rich cultural heritage of the Philippine Islands is honored in song, dance, and elaborate costuming. Everyone is encouraged to come to the Connecting Place Stage in the exhibit hall immediately after the Wednesday evening main session for this special program.
